I cannot find a news clip about this but earlier this week I have heard from a very trustworthy source that a some head Narco king-pin was shot dead while eating with his family in a well know eatery on the Malacon in La Paz.

This happened in broad daylight, 2 hitmen apparently approached the the table and pumped 9 shots into this guy using silenced weapons and quickly left.

The next day the bodies of 2 people known as this guys body guards were found out in the mountains.

I am just saying and hoping that this "so far" PEACEFULL" area of Mexico remains that way!

SAN DIEGO — A former high-ranking official in the Baja California Attorney General’s Office pleaded guilty Tuesday in San Diego federal court to using his position to provide information to a lethal Tijuana drug gang.

Jesús Quiñónez Márquez pleaded guilty to a racketeering conspiracy charge for providing information to the Fernando Sanchez Organization, a a drug trafficking group that federal and state investigators targeted in a sweeping investigation that culminated two years ago with the indictment of 43 people.

Quiñónez, 50, served as the director of international liaison under Baja California Attorney General Rommel Moreno Manjarrez from October 2008 until his arrest in July 2010.

In that post, Quiñónez met regularly with law enforcement agencies on the U.S. side of the border, including the District Attorney’s Office and San Diego police.

He now faces a maximum sentence of life in prison when he is sentenced on Aug. 5, said Assistant U.S. Attorney James Melendres.

According to the plea agreement, Quiñónez admitted he worked with the Fernando Sanchez gang in 2009 and 2010. He specifically acknowledged using his post in the Attorney General’s Office to provide information on the investigation of a double homicide in Tijuana on March 25, 2010.

Two men, Efrain Alvarez Gonazlez and Abel Joatan Gonzalez, were killed as part of the city’s vicious cartel wars. The plea agreement says that Quiñónez learned Fernando Sanchez gang members committed the murders, and he then told a top underboss of the gang, José Alfredo Nájera Gil, that the organization was suspected.

“The plea agreement says he knew that the FSO would use that information to avoid apprehension,” Melendres said Tuesday. In court papers filed last week, prosecutors said that Quiñónez told Nájera how and where the two men were killed, and later gave digital photographs of the aftermath of the killing on a computer thumb drive to another top leader in the organization. In return, Quiñónez received $5,000.

He also admitted in the guilty plea to agreeing to help try to smuggle in to the U.S. $13 million in drug money on behalf of the gang. The money was never transported to the U.S., records say.

Quiñónez’s attorney, Patrick Hall, could not be reached for comment on the plea Tuesday. The case was scheduled to go to trial on June 5.

Of the 43 people indicted, Quiñónez is the 38th to plead guilty. Two remain fugitives in Mexico.

Two men, including the gang’s top lieutenant, Armando Villareal Heredia, are in Mexican custody awaiting extradition to the U.S., Melendres said.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation in the United States has agreed to up its information sharing with Baja California authorities, in order to help capture more fugitives. Officials from the FBI, Baja California state police, and state security officials met today in Tijuana to confirm the agreement.

The FBI and U.S. Marshals routinely aid security officials in Mexico with apprehending fugitives from both sides of the border. Information was previously shared, but the new real time database will be much more advanced than previously used. Information such as possible locations, full criminal background, and other details will be accessible to an international unit of the Baja California Preventative Police.

05/11/12 - The Mexican Army and Jalisco state police recently dealt a blow to the region’s crystal meth producers that El Sol del Centro has described as “historic.” Law enforcement raided a lab at a location known as “Barranca El Astillero,” which is located near the state’s border with Aguascalientes. During the operation, they seized over a ton of crystal meth already packaged for sale, a large quantity of the drug’s chemical precursors, and a light blue GMC pick-up truck without license plates. Two men at the scene, identified as Apolonio Eudave Díaz, age 57, and Eleazar Arteaga Salinas, age 50, attempted to flee with a large bag of white powder, but were detained and brought into custody.

Law enforcement brought in heavy machinery and dug some thirty feet underground to gain entry into the 600-foot long underground structure. The first of its three rooms held 25 beds, in which drug production workers seem to have slept. The room’s interior resembled a typical local, rural dwelling, with earthen walls and a sheet-metal roof. It was outfitted with amenities for workers to live, eat, and sleep in the lab. The second room appeared to be dedicated to drug production, and the third to the storage of chemicals and equipment.

National and state law enforcement intelligence had pinpointed the lab’s whereabaouts after arresting a number of local crystal meth distributors. They confirmed the lab’s location by flying over the site in a helicopter known as “Águila Uno” (“Eagle One”), which allowed them to detect the large underground structure from the air, along with some components of its drug production machinery and waste by-products dumping practices. When law enforcement arrived at the scene, the two men who were later arrested set fire to the lab, which authorities feared would result in a serious explosion given the large quantities of chemicals stored inside. Authorities, however, were able to contain the fire amidst the arrests.

It is not yet clear to whom the meth lab belonged, but seizures of this nature in the past–like the February 2012 discovery of 15-tons of methamphetamine– have pointed to the Sinaloa Cartel, which largely operates in the Guadalajara, Jalisco area. Investigations into the recent discovery, however, are still underway.
